Respecting the deceased. Eternalizing beauty. Crafted with love.
My story
Welcome!🖤
My name is Nicole and I run Nicole Redfox Oddities!! I started my business with the goal to honor creatures post-mortem beauty, teach others the importance of sustainable sourcing and the impact insects have within our society.
A bonus is to show off how cool dead things can be!
I created this shop due to chronic illnesses overtaking my life, making it hard for me to hold down a steady job. I am so happy that I have found this passion and can share with others, as this has given me a new reason for living and loving life.
I am creating one of a kind insect taxidermy artwork, displays, and oddities. I love to incorporate gothic/vintage pieces to my art, however I can create many different styles to suit your needs.
Each piece is unique and will not be replicated the exact same.
I make it a point to use antique/vintage items as my most used medium due to overall quality and timeless look they provide. I go antiquing a lot to gather brassware and frames. I do go to thrift stores, estate sells, and utilize online sources for many of my items.
(*Vintage/antique frames, candle holders, candelabras will have signs of wear to them
*Most vintage frames are bubble/convex glass but will note in each description/title if it has bubble or flat glass
*natural death/sustainably sourced insects and animal products guaranteed)
I am accepting commissions as well. Feel free to reach out to discuss your ideas, or any questions you may have regarding what I could do for you. Please use the “Get in Touch” prompt to reach out, or email me at nicoleredfoxxx@gmail.com :)
I hope that you can enjoy my creations and also be proud to display a piece of my artwork should you choose to take one home.
Thank you for the support! 🖤
Handled and sourced with love and care
The sourcing of specimens is very important to me and should be important to you, too.
I use as many natural death specimen as possible, and use sustainable sourcing practices for my wares.
I will go out and forage for deceased insects and animal products, as well as other items from our natural world (abandoned nests, florals, mosses and bark, etc)
For non-native specimen, I will travel or find others who go out and forage for already deceased insects and animal products in their area.
I also like to source from those who participate in repopulation/conservation efforts who also use sustainable practices. This may include insect farms or other science based sources, too, for deceased insects.
I also go to antique/thrift stores, too, to help reduce excess waste when possible.
I will never use anything from those who source recklessly, mass cull or intentionally harm in large quantities for monetary gain. I will not use endangered or protected species.
When choosing other small businesses for supplies, I make sure that I pick suppliers who are trustworthy and do not participate in killing for the sake of selling animal/insect product. This can be done with heavy research on the seller, as well as word of mouth from others in the industry who participate with high ethical/sustainable standards.
Please take care in researching the sources of your specimen if you partake in collecting insects, bones, and oddities.
I obtain most of my insect specimen dried and folded, and I go through the rehydration process and spreading/mounting myself.
If you have any further questions regarding my ethicality, or have questions/need advice on this topic, please reach out using the “Get in Touch” prompt :)
PS:
The red fox pelt I typically have on display at my events was ethically sourced by my father in Sand Point, AK in the late 90s. She was found already deceased on the beach. She is not for sale.
